The Senator representing Niger South Senatorial District, Muhammad Bima Enagi has re-assured Nigerlites of his resolve to collaborate with other agencies to ensure the completion of the multi-purpose Baro Port project.

The law maker who gave the assurance in exclusive interview said he was so passionate about the completion of the project which he said is capable of providing over 3000 direct jobs for the youth in the state.

Senator Enagi said at his prompting, the Senate recently directed it’s Committee on Marine Transport Works and Public Procurement to probe National Inland Waterways Authority over the stoppage of work on the port project.

This development he attributed to the motion on “urgent need to complete all the necessary components of Baro Port project of the lower River Niger” he recently moved on the floor of the Senate.

The lawmaker lamented that the N40 billion so far expended on the project may render the investment a waste if the project will not be completed and put to use.

The Senator cautioned that any attempt to neglect the project with all its potential benefits would spell a doom for the haulage transpotation in the northern part of the country and the country’s economy.

Senator Enagi also bemoaned the terrible state of the two major access roads to the port – Lambata- Agaie and Agaie – Katcha – Baro. According to the legislature, level of work on the road was about 20 percent completed.

He urged the Federal Government to make funds available to the contractors handling the project and to transfer the road project component of the port to Presidential Infrastructure Development Fund for better funding and exectution.

He then pledged to collaborate with all governmental agencies for the completion of the project. According to the legislature, “the completion of Baro Port is so dear to the people of Niger State. We have resolved to ensure it’s completion by working with all. (Outlook media).
