The legislator representing Egbado North / Imeko Afon Federal constituency of Ogun State in the National Assembly, Abuja Hon. Olaifa Jimoh says he feels honored to be awarded by the Coalition of Online Media Association of Nigeria (COMAN) for being selfless in the services he renders to his people and humanity.

The Green Chamber Legislator, Olaifa said this while fielding questions from Journalists in Abuja on how he feels being awarded today as a result of his outstanding performance. He said he feels good because awards like this don’t come easily being that award of excellence shouldn’t be bought but earned.

“Well I couldn’t feel otherwise than being highly honoured.
Awards is not a regular occurrence, and it is not meant for everybody but deserving few. You must have taken time to go into some research before you arrived at this conclusion. ‘That’s okay, let’s go and give so so and so person an award’ so I feel honoured.

“Even though i am not always enticed by awards, I have collected even more than enough; as a labour leader, I have collected many back in Lagos state. I don’t even have enough space again to display them to the extent that some of them are still parked in Cartons. But then, if you offer me this type of a thing why should i reject it? My Senior Legislative Aide has been on my neck, that these people are thorough and special with the way they checked independently about our activities thus far and reached out . They do not sound like those people who sell awards. It was then I gave him go ahead to accept your offer of this award”

The Congress man, Olaifa further explains that why he is not always enticed by awards remains the fact that he is on a representative capacity in the Lower Chamber of the National Assembly where upon an award that entices him may not impress his constituents as what concerns his people only revolves around his knowledgeability and determination in bringing the dividends of democracy back home and ensuring that the presence of government is felt bountifully at the grassroot level.

“This award, I might be the only one that values it, majority of my people back home don’t know the value of awards nor appreciate it, they will ask you, ‘Honorable, will this one bring money to my pocket?’ Or if the award will put food on their tables. I don’t blame them. That is what many are used to.

“Those who were here before me, they read them well, they knew them
and were playing along with them mostly like that but i have insisted on my election into the office that there must be paradigm shift. We must have to stop this syndrome of business as usual. So my style is quite different from theirs. Many in that shoe are not finding it easy i must confessed and I know but we are making progress to the extent that many are being converted. Mine is people and development of my area first; For example, you can imagine people coming around to tell you that you are too truthful, what could be more embaracing than that, that I tell the truth too much, i should try to be telling lies. I will say tell lies, me? I wouldn’t do that for any amount, I wouldn’t tell lies. I like to tell people what they should hear, not what they want to hear.
