The Katsina Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), has received commendation from the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court in Katsina State, Justice Hussain Garba, and the State Director of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Alhaji Mukhtar Lawal Tsagem, for its efficient operations and improved engagement with border communities.
The accolades were given during a two-day institutional visit by the Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Abba-Aji Idriss, to the Federal High Court and NOA state headquarters on July 21 and 22, 2025.
In a press statement signed on 23 July 2025, the spokesman of the Katsina Area Command of NCS, Bello Isah, said, the visit was part of efforts to strengthen collaboration between security agencies and public institutions in promoting peace and order along Nigeria’s borders.
Justice Hussain Garba praised the Command’s proactive approach under Comptroller Abba-Aji, highlighting how its operations have become more people-centered without compromising enforcement duties.
“The Command’s efficiency is evident, not just in enforcement, but in the way it has built trust and reduced tensions in communities through dialogue and public outreach. It’s a model worth emulating,” Justice Garba said.
In his remarks, NOA Director, Alhaji Tsagem applauded the Command’s alignment with national values of transparency and responsible citizenship. He noted the Customs’ involvement in sensitising communities about the dangers of smuggling and economic sabotage.
“Comptroller Abba-Aji has moved beyond routine enforcement to educate the public, and that has made Customs operations more effective. Efficiency today means not only securing borders but also winning the people’s trust,” Tsagem stated.
Comptroller Abba-Aji, in his response, expressed appreciation for the recognition and emphasised the importance of partnerships with the judiciary, civil society and local leaders. He said the Command is committed to maintaining professionalism and ensuring that enforcement actions are balanced with fairness and public engagement.
“Security and economic stability cannot be achieved in isolation. We need community support, institutional collaboration, and a shared commitment to the rule of law,” Abba-Aji said.
Since assuming office, the Comptroller has introduced a series of reforms, including public complaint desks, youth sensitisation programmes, and inter-agency security dialogues initiatives that stakeholders say have improved compliance and reduced hostility in border areas.
The visit ended with the presentation of commendation plaques and a renewed pledge by all parties to continue working together for the development and security of Katsina State.
