President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Alhaja Lateefat Olufunke Gbajabiamila, a revered nonagenarian and pioneer in Nigeria’s public service, on her conferment of an honorary Doctor of Science (D.Sc. Honoris Causa) in Business Administration by Summit University, Offa, Kwara State.
The President joined her family, friends, and well-wishers in celebrating the 96-year-old UK-trained nurse, who made history as the first female elected executive chairman of a local government in Lagos State.
In a statement by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu described Alhaja Gbajabiamila’s life as a powerful symbol of resilience, professional excellence, and selfless community service.
He praised Summit University for recognising her pioneering contributions to the nursing profession and for naming its proposed College of Nursing in her honour, describing the gesture as a fitting tribute to her lifelong commitment to healthcare delivery and human development.
The President also commended her steadfast devotion to faith and community through the Ansar-Ud-Deen Society of Nigeria, and her role in raising a family distinguished in public service, notably her son, Femi Gbajabiamila, Chief of Staff to the President and former Speaker of the House of Representatives. President Tinubu concluded by praying for her continued good health and joy as she witnesses the enduring impact of her lifelong service to humanity.
