Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, has praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s economic diplomacy drive, saying it is strengthening investor confidence, stimulating growth, and creating new opportunities for Nigerian businesses across Africa.
He described these efforts as central to Nigeria’s expanding role in regional economic engagement.
In a statement issued by Mr Alkasim Abdulkadir SA Media and Communication Strategy said
The project focuses on a subsea fibre-optic cable aimed at improving broadband capacity, digital communications, and cybersecurity cooperation within the region.
According to the minister, the initiative is a direct outcome of President Tinubu’s official visit to Equatorial Guinea in August 2024, when several bilateral agreements were reached.
He noted that the telecommunications project represents a concrete implementation of those commitments, designed to deepen economic and digital connectivity across Africa.
The agreement was signed by Alh. Ibrahim Dikko for Backbone Connectivity Network Nigeria Ltd (BNC) and by Equatorial Guinea’s Minister of Transport, Telecommunications and Artificial Intelligence Systems, Honorato Evita Oma.
Supervised by Equatorial Guinea’s First Deputy Prime Minister, Gaudencio Mohaba Messu, and witnessed by senior officials from both countries, the project underscores growing momentum toward regional integration and technology-driven development on the continent.
