Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have successfully foiled a coordinated terrorist attack by ISWAP fighters in Goniri, Yobe State, killing over 20 insurgents during a fierce overnight battle.
The attack occurred between the night of Monday, 9 March 2026, and the early hours of Tuesday, 10 March 2026, when terrorists launched a heavy assault on the military position from multiple directions.
In a statement issued by Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba,Media Information Office headquarters Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI on Thursday in Abuja said that,
Alert and well-prepared, the troops responded swiftly with superior firepower and effective tactical manoeuvres to repel the attackers.
Reinforcements were quickly mobilised while the Air Component of Operation HADIN KAI provided decisive close air support, significantly weakening the terrorists’ combat capability.
During the intense firefight, the terrorists were overwhelmed and forced to retreat in disarray, leaving behind heavy casualties.
Among those killed was a senior terrorist commander identified as Abu Yusu, the Munzir of Dursula, alongside several other insurgents.
Troops also recovered weapons and equipment abandoned by the fleeing terrorists, including machine guns, AK-47 rifles, improvised explosive devices (IEDs), bombs, and assorted ammunition.
Follow-up clearance operations in the Timbuktu Triangle led to the discovery of more terrorist bodies, while troops remain in control of the area and continue aggressive search operations for fleeing insurgents.
