The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) has celebrated the historic appointment of Thelma Ekiyor-Solanke as the first Black International CEO of Women for Women International.
The announcement, made in Abuja on March 27, 2026, marks a major milestone for Nigeria and the global African diaspora, highlighting the increasing global recognition of Nigerian professionals.
In a statement signed by the Head of Media, Public Relations and Protocols Unit of NiDCOM, Abdur-Rahman Balogun disclosed that Thelma Ekiyor-Solanke is widely respected for her extensive experience in economic empowerment, gender advocacy, and sustainable development across multiple sectors.
In her new role, she is expected to lead the organization’s global mission of supporting women survivors of war and conflict.
Her leadership will focus on providing access to education, financial support, and community-based programmes to help women rebuild their lives.
Reacting to the development, NiDCOM Chairman/CEO Abike Dabiri-Erewa described the appointment as a defining moment for Nigeria and its diaspora community.
She noted that Thelma’s emergence reflects the resilience, excellence, and global impact of Nigerians, while also serving as inspiration for young women and emerging leaders.
NiDCOM reaffirmed its commitment to promoting and celebrating Nigerians in the diaspora, encouraging continued recognition of their contributions to global development and leadership.
