Yusuf Maitama Tuggar has officially resigned as Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, marking the end of his tenure in the Federal Executive Council.In his resignation letter, Tuggar expressed deep appreciation to Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the opportunity to serve the country and contribute to national development.
He highlighted his role in advancing the administration’s 4D foreign policy strategy, which served as a framework for Nigeria’s diplomatic engagements during his time in office.
In a statement signed by Alkasim Abdulkadir Special Assistant on Media and Communications Strategy to Amb Yusuf Maitama Tuggar said that,
Tuggar’s tenure was characterized by a strong commitment to people-centered diplomacy, including humanitarian evacuations and assistance to Nigerians stranded abroad.
He also facilitated scholarship opportunities and strengthened diaspora engagement through initiatives such as the development of a structured Nigerians-in-Diaspora database.
Under his leadership, Nigeria deepened its bilateral and multilateral relations, particularly with traditional allies and countries in the Global South.
His time in office also saw increased regional and security cooperation, including efforts toward the formation of the Regional Partnership for Democracy (RPD).
Tuggar played a key role in promoting economic diplomacy by attracting foreign investment, especially in Nigeria’s energy sector, and securing the release of detained Nigerians abroad through diplomatic channels.
He submitted his resignation ahead of the March 31 deadline set by President Tinubu, with Abubakar Kana receiving the letter on behalf of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.
