The Comptroller-General of Customs, Wale Adeniyi, has thrown his weight behind Team Nigeria’s preparations for the 2026 Commonwealth Games following his appointment as an official ambassador.
His unveiling by the National Sports Commission on 1 April 2026 is part of efforts to strengthen national backing for the Games.
The initiative aims to rally support by assembling a diverse group of experienced administrators, former athletes, and stakeholders to drive Nigeria’s participation.
Adeniyi’s inclusion highlights the growing role of public institutions like the Nigeria Customs Service in advancing sports development.
The ambassadorial team features notable sports administrators such as Saleh Ahmadu, Amos Adamu, Patrick Ekeji, Alhassan Yakmut, and Gbenga Elegbeleye.
Their extensive leadership experience is expected to provide guidance and continuity in planning for the Games.
Also included are accomplished athletes like Daniel Igali and Blessing Oborodudu, ensuring athlete representation.
The mix of technical expertise and athlete input reflects a deliberate strategy to enhance performance and inclusivity.
Adeniyi praised the initiative, describing sports as a vital tool for unity, youth engagement, and global visibility.
The 2026 Commonwealth Games will take place in Glasgow from 23 July to 2 August 2026, featuring multiple sports and full integration of para-sports.
