The Nigerian Navy has handed over five suspected members linked to the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and Eastern Security Network (ESN) to the Department of State Services (DSS) in Anambra State for further investigation.
The suspects were arrested by personnel of Naval Outpost ONITSHA deployed at Forward Operating Base AMIYI during a targeted security operation in Ogbaru Local Government Area of Anambra State.
This was contained in a statement issued by Abiodun Folorunsho Navy Captain Director of Naval Information stressed that,Nigerian Navy
Preliminary investigations reportedly identified one of the suspects as a key coordinator of the group’s activities, while the remaining individuals were believed to be members of the network.
Security findings also revealed locations allegedly used by the group for meetings, coordination, and recruitment activities within the operational area.
In line with inter-agency security collaboration and existing regulations, the Nigerian Navy formally transferred the suspects to the DSS for comprehensive investigation and further necessary action.
The Navy stated that the operation reflects its sustained commitment to supporting internal security operations and combating violent extremism, criminality, and threats to national security.
Navy Captain Abiodun Folorunsho, Director of Naval Information, reaffirmed the Nigerian Navy’s resolve to continue working closely with relevant security agencies to maintain peace, stability, and protection of lives and property across the country.
