The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) hosted a high-level diplomatic cocktail reception in Abuja on 3 June 2026, bringing together ambassadors, high commissioners, heads of missions, and senior government officials to strengthen international cooperation, trade relations, and institutional partnerships.
Held at the rooftop of the NCS Headquarters in Maitama, the event attracted key stakeholders from the diplomatic community as well as top security and government officials, including the Chief of the Air Staff, the Inspector-General of Police, and members of the Customs Management team.
In his welcome address, the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, expressed appreciation to Nigeria’s international partners for their continued support in enhancing diplomatic relations and promoting global trade cooperation.
He reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Customs Service to providing the necessary support and services that enable diplomatic missions to operate effectively within Nigeria, while strengthening mutual understanding and collaboration.
The Customs boss highlighted the Service’s growing international engagement, noting that the NCS currently maintains structured cooperation frameworks with more than twenty customs administrations across the world.
According to him, these partnerships focus on knowledge sharing, capacity building, and operational collaboration designed to improve trade facilitation, customs efficiency, and border management.
CGC Adeniyi stressed that closer collaboration among customs administrations, diplomatic missions, and security agencies remains essential for effective border security, enhanced revenue generation, and improved economic competitiveness.
He observed that modern customs administration operates within an increasingly interconnected global environment, making trust, cooperation, and continuous engagement critical to addressing emerging challenges in trade, security, and compliance management.
The Comptroller-General further noted that platforms such as the diplomatic reception create valuable opportunities for dialogue, relationship-building, and the exploration of new areas of cooperation that can strengthen Nigeria’s trade and diplomatic architecture.
The event concluded with networking sessions and goodwill messages from participants, who commended the Nigeria Customs Service for its commitment to fostering stronger international partnerships, promoting institutional cooperation, and creating an enabling environment for global collaboration.
