The Honourable Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa (Rtd), OFR, has emphasized that quality education remains one of the most powerful tools for defeating terrorism, violent extremism, and radicalisation in Nigeria.

Speaking during the commissioning of the Kaduna Christian Academy in Ungwan Sunday, Sabon Tasha, Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State on 7 June 2026, the Minister reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to expanding educational opportunities in underserved communities.

The newly commissioned school was constructed by the Department of State Services (DSS) as part of efforts to strengthen community development and promote long-term security through education.

Describing Nigeria’s security challenges as an asymmetric war, General Musa noted that terrorists and extremist groups often exploit ignorance and misinformation, making education a critical weapon in countering their influence.

He described the academy as a “military asset without a single rifle,” stressing that lasting security can only be achieved by defeating ignorance, promoting critical thinking, and providing hope for future generations.

The Minister commended the DSS and its partners Nest Global Resources, Dan Oil Exploration Limited, and Tantina Security Services for investing in a project that supports both national security objectives and human development.

General Musa highlighted that the academy follows a similar DSS intervention in Danbushiya, Chikun LGA, where a school was built for the Muslim community, demonstrating the Service’s commitment to inclusiveness, religious harmony, and equitable development.

He noted that modern security extends beyond intelligence gathering and law enforcement, adding that initiatives such as educational infrastructure help build public trust and strengthen the relationship between communities and security agencies.

Addressing students, parents, and community members, the Minister described the school as a sanctuary of hope and urged residents to take ownership of the facility, protect it, and support its mission of nurturing responsible and enlightened citizens.

The event was attended by government officials, traditional rulers, and religious leaders.

Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani, represented by the Commissioner for Justice, Barrister James Kanyip, welcomed the initiative and pledged continued collaboration among the state government, security agencies, and private sector partners to advance education and development in the state.
