The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has debunked a fake video circulating on social media that falsely portrays the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General OO Oluyede, and in some instances misrepresents the individual featured as the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General OO Oluyede.

In a statement issued by Major General Samalia Uba,
Director, Defence Information on 9 June 2026 said that, the DHQ described the video as fabricated, misleading and entirely unconnected to any official communication, statement or engagement involving either of the senior military officers.
According to the military high command, the content was deliberately created to misinform the public and generate confusion about the activities and leadership of the Armed Forces of Nigeria.

The Defence Headquarters urged members of the public to disregard the video completely, stressing that it did not originate from any official military source or authorized communication channel.

Preliminary assessments conducted by the military indicate that the video bears clear signs of digital manipulation and was likely generated using Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology to create a false impression.

The DHQ expressed concern over the growing misuse of emerging digital technologies and social media platforms to fabricate content involving senior military officials, warning that such actions can erode public trust and threaten national security.

The military also cautioned social media influencers, bloggers, content creators and online commentators against sharing, reposting or amplifying unverified military related information for online engagement and visibility.

Reaffirming its commitment to national security, the Armed Forces of Nigeria called on media practitioners and the public to verify information through official Defence Headquarters channels, while assuring Nigerians of its continued dedication to protecting the nation’s sovereignty, peace and security.
