The Nigerian Navy has recorded another operational success in its ongoing campaign against militancy and criminal activities in the Calabar waterways with the handover of a suspected militant collaborator to the Department of State Services (DSS), Calabar Command.
The suspect, identified as Ubong Clement, was arrested by personnel of Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) VICTORY deployed at the Forward Security Outpost on Dayspring Island in Akpabuyo Local Government Area of Cross River State.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect allegedly maintained regular communication with members of militant groups operating around the Dayspring Island axis.
According to the statement “Security findings further suggested that his activities may have compromised ongoing security operations, making him a person of interest to law enforcement agencies.
Intelligence reports linked the suspect to a notorious militant known as Steven Joseph, popularly called “Juju,” who has been associated with several criminal activities in the waterways.
Investigators also alleged that the suspect played a key role in disposing of goods stolen from market boats intercepted by militants operating in the area.
According to findings, proceeds from the sale of the stolen items were allegedly channelled back to the militant group, providing financial and logistical support for its operations.
Following preliminary investigations by the Nigerian Navy, the suspect was formally handed over to the DSS for further investigation and possible prosecution in accordance with existing laws.
The Nigerian Navy reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining intelligence-driven operations, community engagement, and targeted security measures aimed at dismantling militant networks and ensuring lasting peace, security, and stability in the Calabar waterways and surrounding communities.
