Former Vice President and African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has returned to Nigeria after a brief business trip abroad, arriving at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport on Saturday night.
His return has heightened expectations over the formal announcement of his running mate for the 2027 presidential election.
Although the ADC had earlier confirmed former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, as the party’s vice-presidential candidate, the official unveiling by Atiku is yet to take place.
Atiku, who emerged as the ADC’s presidential candidate during the party’s primary election in May, was welcomed by supporters and well-wishers at the airport.
His media aide, Abdulrasheed Shehu, shared photos of the arrival on social media, saying the former vice president received a warm reception from enthusiastic supporters.
Shehu had earlier explained that the delay in officially unveiling Amaechi was due to Atiku’s absence from the country on a short business trip abroad.
He also dismissed reports of disagreements over the vice presidential slot, insisting there was no crisis within the party regarding the choice of running mate.
With Atiku now back in Nigeria, attention has shifted to the expected formal presentation of Amaechi as the ADC’s vice presidential candidate ahead of the 2027 general election.
