Troops of Sector 2, Joint Task Force North West Operation FANSAN YAMMA have recorded another major operational success against Lakurawa terrorists in Kebbi State, neutralizing two terrorists and recovering a cache of weapons during a coordinated offensive operation.
The operation was conducted on 27 June 2026 in the Sabarumawa axis of Kebbi State as part of ongoing military efforts to dismantle terrorist networks and strengthen security across the North West.
The statement was signed by Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, Media Information Officer, Joint Task Force (North West) Operation FANSAN YAMMA, on 28 June 2026 disclosed that the operation was launched following credible intelligence indicating that the terrorists were planning an attack on the Sabarumawa community.
Acting on the intelligence, troops of the Chief of Army Staff Intervention Battalion 7 swiftly mobilized to the area and established a tactical ambush along the terrorists’ suspected route.
As the terrorists advanced, the troops engaged them with overwhelming firepower, leading to a fierce gun battle that disrupted the planned attack.
The troops’ superior combat effectiveness overwhelmed the terrorists, resulting in the neutralization of two members of the group, while others fled into the surrounding forest.
Following the encounter, troops carried out exploitation of the area, leading to the recovery of several weapons and operational items abandoned by the fleeing terrorists.
Items recovered include AK-47 rifles, AK-47 magazines, 143 rounds of ammunition, and one motorcycle believed to have been used by the terrorists.
The successful operation underscores the continued determination of Operation FANSAN YAMMA to sustain aggressive offensive operations against terrorist and criminal elements threatening peace in the North West.
The Joint Task Force reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property, while urging members of the public to continue providing timely and credible intelligence to support ongoing counter-terrorism operations.
