The Commandant of the Depot Nigerian Army, Osogbo, has ordered an investigation into allegations of misconduct by some soldiers following a petition by the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Southwest Zone D.

The Army said it was concerned by the allegations contained in NANS’ press release and reaffirmed that its primary responsibility is to protect all Nigerians, particularly the youth, who represent the nation’s future.

This was disclosed in a statement issued by Major Yahaya Ibrahim, Army Public Relations Officer, Depot Nigerian Army, Osogbo, on 30 June 2026 in Abuja.

The statement stressed that no student or law-abiding citizen should be subjected to harassment, intimidation, assault or any form of abuse by personnel entrusted with safeguarding lives and property.

According to the statement, the Commandant directed a full investigation in line with military regulations and the core values of the Nigerian Army to establish the facts surrounding the alleged incident.

The Army also called on the NANS Southwest Zone D Coordinator, Comrade Adeyemo Josiah Kayode, to provide all available evidence and witness statements to facilitate a thorough and impartial investigation.

Depot Nigerian Army, Osogbo, emphasized that the alleged misconduct does not reflect the standards of discipline, training and character expected of its personnel and recruits.

The Command assured the public that any personnel found culpable after the investigation would face the full weight of military law, reaffirming its commitment to accountability and professionalism.

The statement  disclosed that the Commandant is prepared to meet with the leadership of NANS at the earliest opportunity to discuss the matter and agree on a constructive way forward.
