The Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC), Adewale Adeniyi, has reaffirmed the Nigeria Customs Service’s (NCS) commitment to supporting legitimate businesses and facilitating lawful trade, assuring Renaissance Africa Energy Limited of continued partnership to promote investment, energy security, and economic growth.
Adeniyi gave the assurance during a courtesy visit by the management of Renaissance Africa Energy Limited, led by its Vice President, Production, Meshack Maichibi, to the NCS Headquarters in Abuja on 8 July 2026.
Congratulating the company on its successful corporate transition, the CGC described Renaissance’s emergence as evidence that Nigerian firms can effectively manage and expand strategic national assets while contributing to national development.
He dismissed the perception that Customs exists to frustrate businesses, stressing that the Service is committed to removing barriers to legitimate trade. According to him, the growth of compliant businesses directly benefits Customs and the nation’s economy.
Adeniyi also highlighted ongoing reforms under the Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council (PEBEC), noting that the initiatives are making Nigeria’s business environment more attractive by simplifying trade processes and improving efficiency.
The CGC encouraged Renaissance Africa Energy Limited to complete the requirements for the Authorised Economic Operator (AEO) Programme, explaining that although the certification process is rigorous, it offers significant benefits to compliant traders and enhances trade facilitation.
In his remarks, Renaissance Vice President, Production, Meshack Maichibi, disclosed that the company commenced operations in March 2026 following the acquisition of Shell Petroleum Development Company’s onshore assets and is focused on securing Nigeria’s energy future through investments across the oil and gas value chain.
Maichibi praised the Nigeria Customs Service for its professionalism, prompt approvals, transparent procedures, and digitalised processes, adding that the company maintains zero tolerance for duty evasion and looks forward to strengthening collaboration with Customs across all Commands.
Other members of the Renaissance delegation also commended the Service’s trade facilitation reforms, describing the AEO certification process as transparent and efficient. They noted that Customs’ continuous engagement, digital transformation, and operational support have improved compliance, enhanced efficiency, and boosted investor confidence in Nigeria’s evolving trade environment.
