Troops of the Joint Task Force Kano have thwarted a bandits’ attack and recovered 147 rustled livestock during a successful operation in the Yankamaye-Rimaye axis along the Kano-Katsina border.
The operation followed credible intelligence on the movement of armed bandits with stolen animals on 15 July 2026. Troops deployed from Forward Operating Bases and a Response Area swiftly blocked suspected escape routes and engaged the criminals.
According to a statement signed by Major Babatunde Zubairu, Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 3 Brigade, Nigerian Army, on 16 July 2026 stated that during the firefight, the troops overpowered the bandits, forcing them to abandon the rustled livestock and flee towards Katsina State. Two suspected terrorists were captured, while one motorcycle was also recovered.
In total, troops recovered 97 cattle and 50 sheep, all of which were returned to their rightful owners, preventing significant economic losses to affected communities.
Sadly, a local vigilante, Mallam Yusuf Adamu, 47, from Yanchibi Village, lost his life after being caught in the crossfire. The Nigerian Army extended its condolences to his family and the community.
Commander of 3 Brigade, Brigadier General Saka Jimoh, praised the troops for their professionalism and urged them to sustain pressure on criminal elements. He also called on residents to continue providing timely intelligence to support ongoing security operations.
