Troops of Operation HADIN KAI successfully repelled a coordinated terrorist attack on the 29 Task Force Brigade Headquarters in Benisheikh, Borno State, in the early hours of Thursday, 9 April 2026.
The assault, which occurred around 0030 hours, saw insurgents attempt to breach the defensive perimeter of the military installation.
According to the statement signed by the Director Defence Media Operation, Major General Michael Onoja said that, the troops, under the leadership of Brigadier General Oseni Braimah, responded with swift precision, professionalism, and overwhelming firepower. Their decisive counteraction forced the attackers to retreat in disarray, abandoning their mission.
The failed attack highlights the increasing desperation of terrorist elements following sustained losses in recent military operations across the North-East theatre. Despite their efforts, they were unable to penetrate the well-fortified position.
The encounter, however, resulted in the loss of a few gallant soldiers who paid the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. Their bravery and commitment have been honoured by the military high command.
The Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Olatunbosun Oluyede, commended the troops for their courage and operational effectiveness, while extending condolences to the families of the fallen heroes.
The Armed Forces urged the public and media to refrain from spreading unverified information and allow due process in notifying next of kin before further details are released, in line with military tradition.
Meanwhile, clearance and exploitation operations are ongoing to track fleeing insurgents and prevent regrouping, as the Armed Forces remain resolute in sustaining pressure and restoring lasting peace across the region.
