The Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Adewale Adeniyi, received a warm welcome from officers and management staff at the Service Headquarters in Maitama, Abuja, following his return from Brussels.
Adeniyi returned after attending the 147th and 148th World Customs Organization (WCO) Council Sessions, where he secured another major international milestone.
At the Council Sessions, members unanimously renewed his tenure as Chairperson of the WCO Council for an additional year in recognition of his outstanding leadership and contributions to global customs administration.
During the welcome ceremony, the NCS management also congratulated Adeniyi on the six-month extension of his appointment as Comptroller-General by President Bola Tinubu.
The management team presented the Customs boss with a souvenir to honour his exemplary leadership and his role in transforming the Nigeria Customs Service.
Responding to the reception, Adeniyi expressed gratitude to the officers and management for their unwavering support and commitment to the Service.
He disclosed that he had travelled to Brussels expecting to hand over the WCO Council chairmanship but was surprised when member nations unanimously renewed his mandate for another year.
Adeniyi dedicated the renewed international mandate to the entire Nigeria Customs Service, describing it as a collective achievement earned through teamwork and dedication.
The dual recognition his renewed WCO Council leadership and the extension of his tenure as Comptroller-General reflects growing confidence in his leadership both internationally and within Nigeria.
The Nigeria Customs Service said the renewed mandates are expected to strengthen ongoing reforms, deepen international partnerships, and enhance trade facilitation efforts under Adeniyi’s leadership.
