The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has called for increased private sector investment in military infrastructure, personnel welfare and veterans’ support.

He said stronger partnerships between the military and corporate organisations are vital to improving national security and operational effectiveness.

This was contained in a statement signed by Colonel Appolonia Anele, Acting Director, Army Public Relations, dated 24 July 2026.

The COAS made the appeal while receiving the Managing Director and CEO of ASR Africa, Dr Ubon Udoh, and his delegation at Army Headquarters, Abuja.

He commended ASR Africa Founder and BUA Group Chairman, Alhaji Abdul Samad Rabiu, for his consistent support to the Armed Forces of Nigeria.

Lieutenant General Shaibu noted that today’s security challenges require closer collaboration between government, the military and the private sector.

He stressed that such cooperation would strengthen national resilience and support ongoing security operations across the country.

The Army Chief highlighted the importance of investing in rural road infrastructure to improve troop mobility and operational logistics.

According to him, better road networks enable faster deployment of troops to operational areas.

He added that improved infrastructure also boosts economic activities in remote communities while limiting criminal activities in isolated areas.

The COAS described the welfare of serving soldiers and wounded personnel as a key priority for the Nigerian Army.

He also emphasised the need for sustained support for retired military personnel who dedicated their lives to national service.
He said quality healthcare and effective welfare programmes are essential for maintaining troop morale and combat readiness.

Lieutenant General Shaibu appreciated BUA Group and ASR Africa for investing in military healthcare projects.

He described the interventions as valuable contributions to strengthening the operational capability of the Nigerian Army.
The COAS also thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving the expansion of the Nigerian Army from eight to twelve divisions.

He acknowledged ASR Africa’s ongoing construction of 120 housing units for Corporals and Below at Giri, Abuja.
He described the housing project as a timely intervention supporting the Army’s ongoing expansion.

The Army Chief urged other corporate organisations to emulate ASR Africa by investing in projects that enhance military infrastructure and personnel welfare.
Speaking during the visit, ASR Africa Managing Director Dr Ubon Udoh reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to its partnership with the Nigerian Army.

He disclosed that implementation of the Army’s ₦2 billion allocation under ASR Africa’s ₦10 billion Security Sector Support Grant is progressing steadily toward completion while pledging continued support for national peace, security and development.
