The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has welcomed a new National Commissioner.
Rear Admiral Jamila Abubakar Sadiq Manafa (rtd.) was sworn in by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Her appointment fills a key vacancy within the Commission.
INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, described the move as timely.
He noted it comes at a critical phase of electoral preparations.
The appointment restores representation for the North East zone.
This follows a prolonged absence of a commissioner from the region.
The development is expected to strengthen internal decision making.
The Chairman highlighted her background in law and military service.
He also noted her expertise in logistics and strategic operations.
These skills are expected to support electoral planning and security coordination.
They will also enhance dispute resolution within the Commission.
INEC reaffirmed its commitment to constitutional responsibilities.
Preparations are ongoing for by elections and the 2027 General Election.
