The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has inaugurated its Service Innovation Committee to drive innovation, research, digital transformation, and improved service delivery across the Agency.
The inauguration took place on Wednesday, 10 June 2026, at NiMet’s headquarters in Abuja as part of efforts to institutionalize innovation within the organization.
The initiative aligns with the Federal Government’s public service reform agenda and directives from the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation to promote innovation in the public sector.
Speaking at the event, NiMet Director General and Chief Executive Officer, Charles Anosike, described innovation as a key pillar of the Agency’s current administration.
He emphasized that innovation in a scientific institution involves converting research findings, scientific discoveries, and inventions into practical solutions that create value for society.
Professor Anosike highlighted several reforms introduced since assuming office, including the modernization of NiMet’s operations and services.
He noted that the Agency has recorded improvements in weather and climate service delivery, resulting in better support for stakeholders and decision-making processes.
The Director General also pointed to strengthened stakeholder engagement, enhanced staff capacity development, and expanded strategic partnerships.
According to him, the deployment of digital technologies has improved operational efficiency and contributed to stronger organizational performance.
He stated that the new Committee will identify innovative climate-smart practices, support research and development efforts, and provide evidence-based recommendations to advance NiMet’s strategic objectives.
The establishment of the Committee reinforces NiMet’s commitment to excellence, professionalism, and innovation, positioning the Agency to respond effectively to emerging technological, environmental, and stakeholder demands.
