Troops of the Nigerian Army’s 12 Brigade have successfully foiled an attempted mass abduction of school children in Iluke Community, Kabba Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State.
The terrorists, who reportedly disguised themselves in military uniforms, had planned to kidnap pupils of Iluke Primary School on Wednesday, 10 June 2026.
In a statement signed by Lieutenant Hassan Abdullahi,Acting Assistant Director Army Public Relations 12 Brigade Nigerian Army said that,
Acting on the information, the troops swiftly mobilised and moved to the community to prevent the terrorists from carrying out their mission.
Upon arrival, soldiers discovered that the terrorists had already assembled pupils of Iluke Primary School with the intention of abducting them.
The troops immediately engaged the criminals, forcing them to abandon the planned kidnapping and flee from the scene.
During the encounter, one terrorist was neutralised, while several others escaped with gunshot wounds sustained during the engagement.
Despite the successful rescue operation, the terrorists had earlier killed a teacher and another resident before troops arrived at the community.
The Army described the killings as further evidence of the terrorists’ brutality and disregard for innocent civilian lives.
The prompt intervention of the troops prevented what could have become a large-scale school abduction, saving many pupils and protecting the community from a major tragedy.
Troops are currently pursuing the fleeing terrorists, while security agencies in neighbouring Kwara and Niger states have been alerted to block possible escape routes and strengthen ongoing efforts to eliminate criminal elements from the region.
