The Nigerian Navy has recorded a major success under Operation Delta Sentinel, uncovering a massive cache of illegally refined petroleum products and dismantling a reactivated illegal refining site in Rivers State.
The operation was carried out by personnel of Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) Soroh following credible intelligence on illicit oil refining activities around the Egboama/Ogbogolo axis of Ahoada West Local Government Area.
Supported by aerial surveillance, naval operatives conducted a targeted anti-crude oil theft mission in the area, which is known as a hotspot for illegal refining and fuel smuggling activities.

According to Navy Spokesperson, Navy captain Abiodun Folorunsho stressed that the products were stored in reservoirs, refining facilities and more than 1,200 sacks strategically concealed for onward distribution through an extensive illegal fuel supply network.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the site had been reactivated by criminal elements despite previous enforcement actions, highlighting the persistence of oil theft syndicates in the Niger Delta region.
The successful operation led to the deactivation of the illegal refining site and disrupted a significant fuel distribution chain linked to economic sabotage and the theft of national resources.
The Nigerian Navy reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining intelligence driven operations under Operation Delta Sentinel, aimed at dismantling crude oil theft networks, protecting critical energy infrastructure and safeguarding Nigeria’s economic interests.
